UnCommon Test

After many years of testing and fine tuning, SKOOKUMbrand® Yukon Anoraks pass one of its real world tests with flying colours.

“As the owner & head guide of an adventure travel company I was able to rigorously test [the SKOOKUMbrand® Yukon Anorak] over a hundred days of dog sledding with clients this winter” writes Rod Taylor of UnCommon Journeys, arguably the best wilderness tour company in the Yukon. “The season cumulated with a month spent in the Tombstone Mountain wilderness area. During this time winds of up to 60-miles per hour buffeted our group with driving snow and at times sleet. The anorak was a marvelous garment to have in such an environment. The materials are exceptional and the stitching is impeccable. It was completely windproof yet it breathed exceptionally well even during periods of serious exertion, like hooking up 36 sled dogs at once at minus 33 Celsius!”

Rod Taylor and his partner Martha have enjoyed over 30-combined years guiding people into the Yukon’s wilder places, and their personal expeditions have seen them climbing the highest peaks in the Western Hemisphere and pulling pulks over Greenland’s icecap. “The SKOOKUMbrand® Yukon Anorak is a serious piece of winter gear. And I found it to be as functional as it is good looking. As a professional dog sledding guide I can honestly say that the anorak is bombproof, yet when I wore it to meetings in downtown Whitehorse it never ceased to provoke envious comments from my colleagues!” he adds, “I look forward to wearing it up in the arctic Archipelago on an expedition we are planning for 2007 on the sea ice around Victoria Island”.

Northern Garments would like to thank the Taylors and UnCommon Journeys for taking the time to test our anoraks and provide us with the vital feedback required to produce exceptional winter gear, and to recognize the world-class expertise they have shared with our company.
